In 2025, the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria celebrates its 20th anniversary. Founded on June 6, 2005 by a decree of the Council of Ministers, the Institute began its journey into the world of culture and diplomacy with the opening of the first outdoor park – the Sculpture Park in the courtyard of the Ministry.
During these two decades, the State Institute for Culture has managed to establish itself as a key factor in the interaction between the diplomatic service and the cultural sector, in the development and preservation of the collection of works of art, collected and popularized over decades. The main mission of the institute is to develop and promote the rich cultural heritage of Bulgaria, while building and maintaining trust and partnerships with artists, galleries, museums and academic organizations, both in the country and abroad.
An important part of the activity of the State Institute for Culture is the presentation of Bulgarian culture both in our country and around the world through our representations abroad. The Institute helps promote Bulgarian literature, facilitates participation of Bulgarian productions in international film festivals and actively organizes international exhibitions that present the richness and diversity of Bulgarian art and culture. Through these events, as well as through participation in international cultural networks and forums, the institute contributes to the establishment of Bulgaria as a country with rich cultural traditions and dynamic contemporary art.
Over the past 20 years, the State Institute for Culture has implemented numerous projects that have encouraged intercultural dialogue and helped to establish Bulgaria on the world stage. These projects would not be possible without the invaluable support of our partners – embassies, cultural institutes, non-governmental organizations, museums, galleries, media and other institutions in Bulgaria and around the world.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the State Institute for Culture in 2025, a number of initiatives will be held to mark the anniversary and to pay due respect to all who have contributed to the development, successes and public positioning of the Institute.
