The Institute of the Lithuanian Language

The Institute of the Lithuanian Language is a state research institute.

The main activities of the Institute are research and applied research and their dissemination. The main scientific areas are: Standart Language, Baltic Languages and Names, Written Heritage, Geolinguistics, Terminology and Sociolinguistics. The Institute also has many resources of Lithuanian languages and the centre of the Lithuanian language for the community, young people and the society at large – The Lithuanian Hearth – the museum of the Lithuanian language. The museum was founded in 2006 and it’s the only centre of this type in Lithuania. The main aims of the museum of language are to:

• disseminate the latest news in Lithuanian linguistic
• raise the society’s awareness of language as a key factor for promoting national identity and citizenship
• promote ideas about language as the main factor of creativity; promote multilingualism and multiculturalism.
