In eastern Cuba, Santiago de Cuba, a province where history, culture and idiosyncrasy go hand in hand. A heroine city for its relevant participation in the history of the Antillean nation, and cradle of the Traditional Trova, this genuinely Caribbean land is famous, among other things, because its charismatic inhabitants are joy personified. When talking about music, dance and especially hospitality, Santiago de Cuba comes to the mind, because the peculiarity of the santiagueros have been helpful and fraternal with visitors, which characterizes them since the founding of the this town in 1515.
Among Santiago’s most outstanding attractions are the oldest house in America; two World Heritage Sites: the Castle of San Pedro de la Roca del Morro and the ruins of French coffee plantations; the Basilica del Cobre, where the Virgin of Caridad del Cobre, Patroness of Cuba, is worshipped; the Baconao Park, World Biosphere Reserve; and the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, where the remains of José Martí and Fidel Castro rest.
